Junior Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) of the men's golf team was Western New England's top performer over the weekend at the CCC Championship as the Golden Bears posted a runner-up finish. Ciolek finished third overall in the 20-player field with a two-day score of 149. He followed up his round one 76 with a two-over par 73 during round two on Sunday. (5/1)

Junior quarterback Anthony Service (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) of the football team earns the first Western New England University Male Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the fall semester after his performance in the Golden Bears' 26-10 victory over crosstown rival Springfield College in the Pynchon SAW Game last Friday night. Service accounted for all three of Western New England's touchdowns, completing 12-of-23 pass attempts for 144 yards and two scores to go with 90 yards (5.6 per carry) and one touchdown on the ground. Junior forward Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) of the men's soccer team scored three of Western New England's four goals last week as the Golden Bears went 1-2 in three games. He scored twice on Saturday as Western New England opened CCC play with a 2-0 shutout of University of New England, before adding another goal in Sunday's 2-1 setback to Clark. (9/12)

Junior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) of the men's golf team led the way for Western New England at the 33rd Duke Nelson Invitational over the weekend as the Golden Bears placed tenth in the 22-team field. Metcalf turned in a one-over par 72 during round two action, finishing the tournament with a combined score of 151, good for a tie for tenth overall. (9/19)

Junior wide receiver Mark Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) of the football team earns Male Athlete of the Week honors following his career performance in Western New England's 59-28 win over Curry on Saturday. Dietrich broke out for career-highs in receiving yards (163) and receiving touchdowns (three), while matching his career mark for receptions with eight. His three receiving touchdowns tied a program record. (9/26) 

Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) of the men's soccer team scored four goals in two matches last week as the Golden Bears went 1-1. He registered his first career hat-trick on eight shots in Western New England's 4-3 non-conference win over Keene State on Wednesday, before scoring the team's only goal in a 3-1 CCC loss to Wentworth on Saturday. Senior Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.) of the men's golf team led the way for Western New England on Tuesday as the Golden Bears captured the CCC Fall Qualifier and earned the right to host the CCC Championship in the spring. Fontaine fired a team-best, three-over par 75 and finished second overall in the 34-player field. (10/10)

Senior cornerback Obi Etuka (Middletown, Conn.) of the football team earns WNE Male Student-Athlete of the Week honors following his record-breaking performance in Saturday's 37-0 shutout of MIT at Golden Bear Stadium. Etuka recorded a pair of interceptions, in the process surpassing the program record for career picks (16) set by Jay Rooney '07. He helped lead a Western New England defense that limited the Engineers to just 113 yards of total offense and seven first downs. (10/17)

Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) of the men's soccer team earns WNE Male Student-Athlete of the Week honors after leading the Golden Bears to a 2-0 week. Strobel made four saves in a 3-1 win over Curry on Tuesday, before posting a ten-save shutout on Saturday in a 1-0, double overtime win at Salve Regina. (10/24)

Junior Adrian Barber (Castleton, N.Y.) of the men's cross country team earns WNE Male Student-Athlete of the Week honors following his performance on Saturday in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, which the Golden Bears hosted on campus. Barber completed the eight-kilometer course in 28:04, finishing 14th overall in the 89-runner field. (10/31)

Senior running back Nick Connell (East Marion, N.Y.) of the football team fueled Western New England's potent rushing attack with career-highs in both yards (170) and touchdowns (four) on 30 carries (5.7 avg.) in Saturday's NEFC-title clinching, 41-22 victory at Salve Regina. His performance came against a squad that entered Saturday's action ranked second in NCAA DIII in rushing defense (50.4 YPG). (11/7)

11/7 Honorable Mention: Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) of the men's soccer team led Western New England to its sixth CCC title in program history, scoring two goals in both the semifinals and championship match. He netted two goals against Endicott on Wednesday, while also converting his penalty kick attempt in the PK shootout, before adding two more goals in Saturday's triumph at Wentworth, including the game-winner early in the second half.

Sophomore forward Steve Beck (Milton, N.Y.) of the ice hockey team earns WNE Male Athlete of the Week honors after scoring a goal in each of the Golden Bears' two games last week. He has scored in three straight games overall during a 1-1-1 stretch for Western New England, and leads the team with three goals this season. (11/14)

Senior linebacker Blair Cook (New Brunswick, N.J.) of the football team finished with eight tackles, including 1.5 for loss and one sack, to go with a third quarter interception on Saturday as Western New England earned its first NCAA Tournament win in program history with a 44-27 victory over Husson at Golden Bear Stadium. Sophomore goaltender Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) of the ice hockey team is this week's WNE Male Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Golden Bears to the Rutland Herald Invitational title over the weekend. He posted his first career shutout, a 33-save effort, in Friday's 1-0 win over Castleton, before stopping 35 of the 36 shots he faced in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Tufts. Gollmer was named Tournament MVP for his efforts. (11/28)

Sophomore guard Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) of the men's basketball team averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds per game last week. He finished one point shy of matching his career-high with 29 in Wednesday's loss at Salve Regina, before adding 17 points on Saturday against Gordon. Pettway dished out six assists against the Seahawks and four against the Fighting Scots while shooting 57.7% (15-of-26) from the field for the week. (12/5)

Senior captain Brian Donovan (Manchester, Conn.) of the wrestling team is the final Western New England Male Student-Athlete of the Week of the fall semester after posting a 3-1 record in four bouts last week. Donovan picked up a 5-1 decision on Friday night as the Golden Bears cruised to a 37-6 win over New England College in their home opener, before registering a pair of pins on Saturday against Southern Maine and Bridgewater State. Senior guard Mike Gelineau (Waltham, Mass.) of the men's basketball team has been named the WNE Male Student-Athlete of the Week after averaging 11.0 points per game in a 1-2 week for the Golden Bears. He scored a team-high 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point range in Saturday's 74-70 win over Endicott. Gelineau also recorded four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 32 minutes off the bench. (1/9)

Junior Tim McLinden (Plaistow, N.H.) of the wrestling team is this week's WNE Male Student-Athlete of the Week after posting a big win on Saturday at Norwich. McLinden registered a 7-6 decision over Norwich sophomore Jacob Forsman, who entered Saturday's action as the New England Wrestling Association's (NEWA) No. 3 ranked wrestler at 133 pounds. (1/16)

Freshman forward Nana Appiah (Patterson, Calif.) of the men's basketball team averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Golden Bears on his way to WNE Male Athlete of the Week honors. In Tuesday's win over Curry, he broke out for a season-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and 1-of-2 from the free throw line. Appiah also grabbed a season-high nine rebounds to go with four steals and two assists in 22 minutes off the bench. The freshman followed that up with 12 points in Saturday's loss at Gordon. (1/23)

Sophomore forward Matt O'Dea (Orland Park, Ill.) of the ice hockey team earns WNE Male Athlete of the Week honors after helping the Golden Bears to a 1-1 record last week. In Saturday's 4-2 victory at Suffolk, he scored the game's opening goal in the first period before setting up junior Matt Smethurst for Western New England's second goal early in the middle frame. Through 18 games this season, O'Dea is tied for second on the team with ten points (five goals, five assists). (1/30) 

Freshman Nick Fortini (Deer Park, N.Y.) of the wrestling team is this week's WNE Male Student-Athlete of the Week following his clutch performance in Saturday's 21-18 victory over Trinity. With the match tied 18-18 heading into the heavyweight bout, Fortini snapped a 1-1 tie in the third period on his way to a 4-2 decision over Matthew Ferraro to clinch the win for the Golden Bears. Senior guard Mike Gelineau (Waltham, Mass.) of the men's basketball team earns WNE Male Athlere of the Week honors for the second time this season after averaging 20.6 points per game on 53.6% shooting from the field (22-of-41) and 53.8% from beyond the arc (14-of-26) in a 2-1 week for the Golden Bears. In Monday's 92-67 victory over Elms, Gelineau erupted for a career-high 40 points with the help of ten three-pointers, in the process becoming Western New England's 22nd 1000-point scorer in program history. He followed that up with ten and 12-point efforts as the Golden Bears split CCC contests at Eastern Nazarene and Curry on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively. (2/13)

Sophomore guard Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) of the men's basketball team averaged 25.0 points per game on 47.2% shooting from the field and 77.8 from the free throw line over Western New England's final two games of the regular season this past week. He scored 22 points against Roger Williams on Tuesday, before capping his sophomore campaign with a 28-point effort at Endicott on Saturday. Pettway also averaged 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game for the week. (2/20)

Senior captain Josh Twietmeyer (Weston, Fla.) of the ice hockey team recorded three points (two goals, one assist) last week as the Golden Bears wrapped up their 2016-17 campaign. He scored an empty-net goal and handed out an assist on Tuesday as Western New England clinched a spot in the CCC Tournament with a 7-2 victory at Wentworth, before tallying his seventh goal of the season on Saturday in a CCC quarterfinal loss at Endicott (2/27). 

Making his first career start on Sunday in game two of Western New England's season-opening doubleheader against SUNY Old Westbury, sophomore righthander Paul Wetmore (Hamden, Conn.) of the baseball team produced the program's first no-hitter since 2013 as the Golden Bears earned a split with their 2-0 triumph. Wetmore struck out six batters and walked four during his 96-pitch performance. (3/6)

Sophomore second baseman Alex Loparco (Riverside, Conn.) of the baseball team hit .600 (9-for-15) with three doubles, one home run and six RBI last week as the Golden Bears opened their eight-game trip at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 3-0 record. Loparco recorded multiple hits in all three contests, including a career-best 5-for-6 effort with a double and four RBI in Saturday's 13-6 victory over Framingham State. He got on base at a .647 clip and scored four runs out of the leadoff spot. (3/13)

Sophomore outfielder Ben LaCroix (Branford, Conn.) of the baseball team hit .500 (8-for-16) with two doubles, two home runs, six walks and seven RBI last week as the Golden Bears went 4-1 over their last five games in Florida. He opened the week by going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and one RBI in Tuesday’s 5-4 win over Mount St. Joseph, before reaching base three times on Wednesday with two walks and a double against Trinity. LaCroix homered and drove in five runs in Friday’s doubleheader sweep of No. 13 TCNJ, before wrapping up his week on Saturday by going 2-for-4 with another solo homer in Western New England’s 3-0 victory over Wisconsin-Platteville. The sophomore posted a .636 on-base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage for the week. (3/20)

Sophomore midfielder Hunter Cocks (Walden, N.Y.) of the men's lacrosse team won 14-of-19 (73.6%) face-offs and secured a team-high seven ground balls on Saturday in Western New England's 14-8 loss to Springfield College. (3/27)

Senior attackman Keegan Dudeck (Longmeadow, Mass.) of the men's lacrosse team led the Western New England offense with 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in a 2-1 week for the Golden Bears that featured a pair of CCC victories. He opened the week with five points (two goals, three assists) in a loss to No. 2 Tufts on Tuesday, before tallying seven (four goals, three assists) on Wednesday as Western New England opened CCC play with a 13-7 win at Gordon. Dudeck capped his week with another five point effort (two goals, three assists) on Sunday in a 9-7 triumph over UNE. (4/3)

Sophomore Ben LaCroix (Branford, Conn.) of the baseball team powered the Western New England offense last week, batting .375 (9-for-24) with two doubles, one home run and 13 RBI as the Golden Bears went 5-2. He posted four multi-hit efforts and drove in multiple runs in three contests. The sophomore went 2-for-3 with three RBI in a 19-9 win over Gordon on Monday, before tallying two more hits, two RBI and two runs scored in Western New England's 17-0 victory over Keene State on Friday. LaCroix turned in another multi-hit effort (2-for-3) in game one of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Nichols, before driving in a career-high seven runs with two doubles and a three-run homer on Sunday in the second of two games against Wentworth. Freshman Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) of the men's tennis team went 4-0 at No. 1/3 singles and No. 1/2 doubles in a 2-0 week for the Golden Bears. His 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles on Tuesday clinched Western New England's 6-2 win over Johnson & Wales. Surawski was also victorious in both singles and doubles play on Saturday in Western New England's 9-0 win over Johnson State (4/18).

Junior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) of the men’s golf team turned in a pair of strong efforts to help the Golden Bears capture both the Western New England Invitational on Thursday and the JWU Wildcat Invitational over the weekend. He shot a three-over par 75, good for 8th overall, at the WNE Invitational, before placing second in the 85-player field at the JWU Invitational with a two-day score of 151 (77+74). (4/24)
