Scialdone, a sophomore attack out of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. (Lakeland High School), proved why she was the 2013 Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Year and first-team selection by getting off to a quick start in the team's 21-7 season-opening win at Manhattanville College on Saturday. The elementary education major earned the CCC's first player of the week honor on Monday after recording game highs of five goals and five assists for 10 points. She finished with a personal record for points in a game, tied a mark for assists and was one goal shy of another personal record.
Western New England Men's Basketball is honored because of receiving one of the CCC's six major postseason awards: team sportsmanship. The Golden Bears--led by the senior class of Nick DeFeo, Ryan Mickiewicz, Dennis Rinaldi and Kevin Wilkes--won three games against the conference's top four teams, including Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Championship Tournament participant Salve Regina University--which fell twice to WNE during the regular season.
The team led the CCC in offensive rebounds per game (13.6), ranked third in rebounding average (39.8) and was fourth in rebounding margin (+3.4).
