SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University Department of Athletics has announced its male and female student-athletes of the week for the week ending Sunday, March 23. Baseball pitcher Mike Lospinuso and women's lacrosse midfielder Shelby Trebbe have earned the honors.

Lospinuso, a fifth-year senior out of West Islip (N.Y.) High School, was named on Monday the Commonwealth Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week. This award is the fifth one during his time with the Golden Bears. He improved to 1-1 on the season as he threw a complete game against William Paterson University in Central Florida where the Golden Bears came out with a victory of 6-1 on Wednesday, March 19. The criminal justice major had a season-high six strikeouts and lowered his WNE-best earned-run average to 1.80 on the season, which ranks seventh in the CCC.

Trebbe, a senior from Wilbraham and Minnechaug Regional, led the Golden Bears offense with 10 points on six goals and four assists as WNE compiled an aggregate 39-6 score in road wins over the University of Dallas and Southwestern University on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Playing for the first time since her freshman campaign of 2011, the communication major is second on the team in goal-scoring (22) and caused turnovers (10) and third in total points (32).
