WNE Student-Athletes of the Week Selected for April 7-13 Period
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University women's swimming team and Kevin Marciano, a sophomore infielder on the baseball squad, are the latest Golden Bears to be recognized as the athletic department's student-athletes of the week, for the April 7-13 period.

Batting leadoff, Marciano (Pepperell, Mass.) set the tone for a WNE week that saw it win all five games against Commonwealth Coast Conference competition. He batted .433 (13-for-30) with three doubles, 13 runs batted in, eight stolen bases and seven runs scored in eight games overall to earn CCC Player of the Week accolades. Marciano hit safely in all eight games and picked up four multi-hit games along the way. In CCC competition, Marciano tallied two hits, one RBI, three runs scored, and three stolen bases in a 10-2 victory at Salve Regina, collected two hits, one RBI, a run scored, and two steals in a doubleheader sweep of Curry, and added five hits, six RBI, and a stolen base in a pair of wins over Wentworth. Marciano added four hits, five RBI, and two steals in non-conference games against Framingham State, Keene State and Brandeis.

Led by 12th-year head coach Andrea Daley, the Golden Bears recently received a NCAA Division III Scholar All-America Team citation from the College Swimming Coaches' Association of America (CSCAA) for the 10th semester in a row.

Western New England posted a 3.41 team grade-point average during Fall 2013, which ranks in a tie for 33rd place nationally with Washington and Lee University. The Golden Bears are also sixth in New England and second among CCC institutions that sponsor women's swimming.
