SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Friends of the Western New England University Athletics Family: be sure to mark your calendars for the 15th annual WNE Golf Classic, presented by ARAMARK, Bob Carnevale '68/Bruce Hambro '74, Hampden Engineering Corporation, MassMutual Retirement Services and USI Insurance Services.
The popular fund-raising event is a scramble format that will be hosted at the Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow on Monday, Sep. 23, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
The cost is $175 and includes lunch, cocktail reception and hors d'oeuvres after the tournament, greens fees on a championship course, golf carts, access to beautiful facilities, practice greens and driving range.
Prizes will be awarded for low gross and low net winners, closest to the pin, straightest drive and longest drive. Mulligan tickets, raffle, silent auction and a putting contest are some of the activities on tap.
The proceeds benefit Golden Bear student-athletes as the athletics program at Western New England is an integral part of the institution and overall development of the student-athlete. Over 400 students compete in 19 varsity sports and two non-NCAA programs. In addition, the University offers an intramural program that reaches the entire campus community.
In 2012-13, the Golden Bears ranked second among Commonwealth Coast Conference members and placed in the upper-third of the Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). The prestigious Cup measures the success of a broad-based intercollegiate athletics program through NCAA Championships competition, as there are 444 Division III institutions that comprise the largest classification in the governing body of college sports.
Western New England Athletic Publications Coordinator Ken Cerino, who was inducted into the College Sports Information Directors' of America (CoSIDA) Hall of Fame in 1996, is the guest of honor.
Major credit cards, checks made payable to Western New England University and cash are acceptable forms of payment. The registration deadline, along with your payment, is Sep. 20.
Complete foursomes or individuals are welcome. If you would like to be a sponsor or receive more information, please contact WNE director of athletics Michael Theulen at (413) 782-1377.
