SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Western New England University Athletics, in conjunction with the University's Alumni Association, has formally announced the creation of the Golden Bear Sports Network (GBSN) which will deliver rich, live streaming video content of 100 (home) games spanning 14 sports in 2013-14.

"This marks the first comprehensive webcasting schedule plan in the history of our department, and we couldn't be more excited to bring this service to the University's stakeholders that include the campus community, alumni, parents, student-athletes, donors and the news media," stated Director of Athletics Dr. Michael Theulen. "Our Athletics Communication Office is always looking for new features to enhance our outreach, and this venture will assist in our recruiting efforts.

"We also are appreciative of the support from Office of Alumni Relations, and we are proud to collaborate with the Pack Network as our webcasting partner."

WNEgoldenbears.tv is powered by the Boston-based Pack Network, a company that specializes in live high-definition TV and webcast productions, as well as graphic print design, web design, multimedia consulting and post-production video projects. Some of the clients include World Team Tennis, NCAA Division I conferences and numerous institutions on the NCAA I-II-III levels.

"We are excited to partner with Western New England University to launch the Golden Bear Sports Network," said Pack Network co-founder Adam Polgreen. "The network will be a great new way for fans, parents, alumni and supporters to follow the WNE teams, watching events live on their computers and mobile devices."

"The Alumni Association is very proud to be able to help support the Athletics Department on this very exciting project. The live streaming video for Athletics means that the families of our students, alumni, and students can follow the Golden Bears action online," added Mathew Nelson, President of the WNE Alumni Association.

Western New England director of athletic communications Patrick Stewart commissioned senior communications (media theory & production) student Frank G. Maturo III to design the GBSN logo. He is the son of Frank G. Jr. and Mary Grace Maturo of Hamden, Conn.

"We have beta-tested WNEGoldenBears.tv for the past couple weeks so that we can learn how to use the equipment, and I am pleased that our student staff have been quick studies," Stewart said. "We have already webcasted soccer, volleyball and field hockey games for the first time in those programs' history, and now we can look forward to bringing our viewers an ambitious schedule of games during this academic year."

The WNEGoldenBears.tv webcast schedule for winter and spring sports will be announced at a later date.

In the future, WNE Athletics hopes to webcast multiple events at the same time, expanded graphics features and have audio commentary to call the play-by-play and provide color analysis of games.
