Soccer Standouts Garner Fifth WNE Student-Athlete of the Week Awards
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Soccer standouts Brionna Voight and Jake Bartnik have been chosen the Western New England University Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Week, for the period Sep. 23-29, as the fifth set of winners announced on Wednesday.

Bartnik, a senior forward from suburban East Longmeadow High School, is the reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He was credited with two game-winning goals to help lead the Golden Bears to a 2-0 week, including a win over a regionally-ranked team and posting a conference victory. In a 1-0 win last Wednesday over No. 5 Wesleyan (Conn.), he scored the lone tally to avenge a 1-0 loss last season. Then on Saturday, he scored the first goal of the contest in a 2-0 win over Nichols, handing the Bison their first loss in nine starts this season.

Currently, the criminal justice major leads the Golden Bears with seven goals, 14 points, 25 shots and 11 shots on goal. Bartnik also paces the team with four game-winning goals, as well as three tallies that have been the first scored in a contest.

A freshman striker out of Springfield Central High, Voight earlier this week was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week to mark the second time this season that she has received this award (also on Sep. 3). She had two game-winners in a 2-0 week for the Golden Bears. She factored in both goals for WNE as she netted a goal and earned an assist in a 2-0 non-CCC victory over local rival Elms a week ago Tuesday. Four days later, she recorded the lone goal of the game in the first half against conference foe Nichols, and that proved to be all WNE would need to secure the CCC win.

The exploratory studies major now leads the Golden Bears with six goals (including three game-winners), four assists and 16 points.
