Seventh WNE Student-Athlete of the Week Award Winners Named
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Julia Bernas, of Framingham High School, and Neil Williams (Brewster, N.Y.) have been honored as the Western New England University student-athletes of the week, for the period ending Sunday.

A senior tri-captain on the women's cross country squad, Bernas placed in the 73rd percentile out of 371 individuals at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park on Saturday. She navigated the 5-kilometer course in 21 minutes and 25.12 seconds for a season's best to help the Golden Bears end up 23rd in the 39-team standings. The pharmacy major was the first WNE runner across the finish line for the second time in a row.

Williams, a freshman midfielder, registered the first two goals of his career to help the WNE men's soccer team to a 2-0 week. He scored the first goal of the game of a 2-1 non-conference win over Worcester State on Tuesday, Oct. 8, and followed up that performance by netting the game-tying tally of an eventual 3-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory against Wentworth four days later. The exploratory studies major has started in 11 of 12 games this season.
