SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Thirty Western New England University student-athletes were inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society on Sunday in an award ceremony held in the St. Germain Campus Center.
One of the top events on the Golden Bears sports calendar, Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes college students who receive a varsity letter and display leadership while maintaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade-point average throughout their junior and/or senior years.

In addition, senior women's volleyball player Grace Kucharski, of Avon (Conn.) High School, received special recognition. She received the award last year, but wasn't able to attend since she was fulfilling an internship at Disney World in Florida.

The National College Athlete Honor Society was founded at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., on May 17, 1996, as a student-athlete honor society for the recognition of high academic achievers and sport letter winners at the collegiate level. Chi Alpha Sigma is the first national scholar-athlete society to honor those collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition.
