Mulhern, a senior second baseman, was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Softball Player of the Week, which was announced on Monday. This is the second time Mulhern has received this award from the conference; the first time was on April 1, 2013. She had three straight multiple-hit games and batted .692 (9-for-13) with seven runs scored during the Golden Bears' 3-0 record last week. Against local rival Westfield State on Tuesday, March 31, Mulhern collected three hits and scored three runs during a 16-2 victory. She went 6-for-8 with her first career home run and four runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Roger Williams on Saturday, including going 4-for-4 in the nightcap. In those three games, the forensic chemistry major had an .818 on-base average and logged a 1.000 slugging percentage. On the season, Mulhern leads WNE in batting (.400), runs scored (18), hits (20), triples (2) and slugging (.600).
Otero, a junior, helped Western New England (5-3) to its best start through eight matches since the 2010-2011 team went 6-2 as he went 4-0 during the week. In an 8-1 in over Wentworth on Tuesday, he picked up wins at No. 1 singles and doubles, defeating his opponent 6-0,6-1, before teaming up with PJ Nassar to win doubles, 8-2. During a 9-0 victory over Curry, Otero defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and won in No. 1 doubles with Nassar, 8-5. On the week, the civil engineering major lost only four games in singles play.
