Top Moment #5 of 2013-14: Kevin Parma Combining Scholarship and Athletics Excellence
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Men's soccer student-athlete Kevin Parma's achievement in both the classroom and on the field makes him the No. 5 moment/story of the 2013-14 academic year in Western New England University Athletics. During his senior year, he repeated on the Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men's Soccer First Team by the College Sports Information Directors' of America (CoSIDA) and he became the first National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-American in the 48-year history of the Golden Bears program while earning defensive player of the year accolades from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC New England) and Commonwealth Coast Conference.

A back out of Peconic, N.Y. (Southold High School), Parma was the driving force behind a Western New England defense that allowed an average of just 0.88 goals per game and posted a CCC-best 12 shutouts as he helped the 2013 Golden Bears finish with a 16-5-3 record, a CCC tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Second Round

The two-time team captain, who was a double major in accounting and finance with a 3.89 grade-point average, ended up with eight goals and 20 points in his 91-game career that included 80 starts.

Parma's other honors in 2013-14 include: WNE Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, NSCAA/Continental Tire All-New England South Region First Team, NSCAA College Division Men's Scholar All-East Region, Capital One NCAA Division III Academic District I First Team, ECAC New England Division III First Team All-Star, three-time All-CCC (First Team the last two seasons), three-time Academic All-CCC, New England Intercollegiate Soccer League Senior All-Star Game invitee, ECAC Division III New England Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 3), CCC Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 30, Nov. 4), and WNE/Soccer City All-Tournament Team.
