SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University Athletics Department has selected sophomore golfer Mike Gelineau (Waltham High School) and senior cross country runner Erica Lozy (North Smithfield [R.I.] High School) as the Golden Bear Student-Athletes of the Week, for the period ending Sunday.

Gelineau was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Golf Rookie of the Week on Sunday. This is his first award from the conference. He gave a stellar performance at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on Sunday and Monday, October 26-27. His final score was 154 (79-75) through 36 holes and he placed eighth. He led his team to a third-place finish out of 22 schools. Western New England topped all CCC schools in the NEIGA field, and Gelineau set collegiate career highs for both scoring totals and tournament placement.

His 80.2 stroke average ranks him second on the team at the end of the fall schedule, and he participated in all six golf events and 11 rounds.

Lozy was recently named the 2014 CCC Cross Country Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. During her time at WNE, Lozy has maintained an overall GPA of 3.88 and has a near-perfect GPA of 3.98 within her major of psychology. Along with being a three-year member of the cross country team, she is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Psi Chi, and Mortar Board Honor societies and also part of the Berkshire Association for Behavior Analysis and Therapy and the Eastern Psychological Association. She has shown tremendous improvement each year, shaving her best time of 27 minutes and 3 seconds for 5,000 meters as a sophomore to a 25:26 career-best this season.
