SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Freshman women's basketball guard Dorothy O'Neill (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Villa Academy) and senior wide receiver Andrew Walz (Groton, Conn./Fitch High School) have been selected the Western New England University Student-Athletes of the Week, for the seven-day period ending on Sunday.

O'Neill, the reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, had an impressive opening weekend to her Western New England career. She averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals as the Golden Bears opened the 2014-15 campaign with a split of their first two games at the University of Saint Joseph Tip-Off Tournament in West Hartford, Conn. She began her collegiate career with 15 points and five rebounds in a 76-58 setback to Union (N.Y.) on Saturday and followed with 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals in a 73-61 triumph over Johnson State on Sunday. For the week, O'Neil shot 46 percent (13-of-28) from the field, including a blazing 57 clip (4-of-7) from three-point range. The forensic biology major was named to the all-tournament team.

In a 41-14 New England Football Conference Senior Day victory over visiting Nichols College during the Golden Bears' season finale, Walz had three touchdown receptions of 13, 15 and 5 yards to set the WNE career record with 21. Walz--who caught four balls for 48 yards on the afternoon--came into the game tied with Mike Roach, who had 18 TD catches from 1995 to 1998. The accounting major ended 2014 with 23 receptions for 361 yards and seven TDs, which is fourth in the NEFC. He finishes ranked among the all-time great receivers in school history: first in touchdowns, second with 1894 yards and fifth with 117 catches. He also lists No. 1 with a 16.2 yard-average based on 100 receptions.
