SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Western New England University Athletics will host its 16th annual Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday at the Alumni Healthful Living Center (AHLC). Registration is open for the popular GWSD event at Western New England that will take place from 8 a.m. to noon.

This program is designed for girls from the Greater Springfield area ages 7-12 years old. Participants have the opportunity to preselect two sport clinics. Clinics will be instructed by Western New England coaches and varsity student-athletes. Clinics include both instruction and time for play. In addition, recreation time will be made available for swimming, racquetball and squash. Light snacks will be provided.

Participants are encouraged to donate one personal hygiene product (e.g., hair products, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.) as those items will be donated to a local shelter.

The GWSD schedule includes registration check-in from 8-8:30 a.m.; clinic activities from 8:30-11:30 a.m.; snack time from 11:30 a.m.-noon; and pickup is at noon. Participants should bring a bathing suit and a towel for after swimming.

GWSD participants are invited to stay and watch our Golden Bear teams in action on the 31st, including a women's swimming meet versus the University of Saint Joseph-Conn (Noon) in the AHLC pool, the women's basketball team taking on Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Curry, 1 p.m., in the AHLC field house, and then followed by the men taking on the Colonels for a 3 p.m. tip-off approximately.
