Donna Blackburn was a prolific scorer who made an immediate impact when she joined the basketball team at Western New England. In her rookie season Donna led the Golden Bears in scoring (22.8 avg. which ranked second among NCAA Division III players) and assists (104), was second in steals (72), and third in rebounding (8.5). The talented guard from Port Chester, New York was named to the American Women’s Sports Foundation (AWSF) Freshman All-America and the Kodak All-America District 1 Teams. The following season Donna led the squad in assists (103), was second in scoring (17.2), and fourth in rebounding (6.1) in making the AWSF All-Region Team. As a junior in 1984-85, Donna was instrumental in helping Western New England finish with a school best 20-8 mark in only its ninth season of varsity competition. She was first on the team in scoring (20.1 avg.) and assists (93), second in steals (83), and fourth in rebounding (5.6). Donna was also both a three-time All-New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) and NAIA District 5 All-Star selection. Donna became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,586 points in 79 games (20.1 avg.) over three seasons. Twenty-seven years later, she ranks third on the program’s all-time list. Western New England compiled a 45-32 record (58.4) with Donna dominating the backcourt. Donna received her bachelor’s degree in Math and a master’s degree in Computer Science from Polytechnic University (NY). She serves as a Math teacher at the Walker Middle School in Orlando, Florida.
