Dr. Anthony Caprio has been the main catalyst behind the tremendous success of all aspects of Western New England College, including the athletics program. In the second year of his tenure as President (1997), Dr. Caprio commissioned a Study of Athletics that examined the athletic and recreational programming, and facilities at the College. He approved the report's recommendations sending Western New England College's athletics program into an era of unprecedented excellence. Under Dr. Caprio's leadership, the Western New England College athletics program has developed into one of the most respected and successful in the region. The Golden Bears have participated in 16 NCAA Division III Championships and captured 30 conference tournament titles. Numerous student-athletes have received athletic and academic awards for their success on the playing fields and in the classroom. Dr. Caprio, a native of Providence, Rhode Island, received his B.A. degree from Wesleyan University, and both the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University.
