SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Western New England College banged-out 14 hits in posting a 12-2 decision over city rival Springfield in a non-league baseball game Thursday afternoon (Apr. 15) at Berry-Allen Field.
Junior designated hitter Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, CT) led the way by going 4-for-5 with a double, triple, run, and two RBI. He reached base five times after also collecting a walk.
Senior first baseman Joe Griglun (Southington, CT) just missed a cycle with a single, double, and homer. He also knocked in two runs and scored twice.
Junior left fielder Andrew Fatse (Hampden, MA) contributed a single, two-run triple, and a pair of runs.
Senior right fielder Steve Kearney (Glastonbury, CT) walked twice, had an RBI single, and scored three runs.
In his second career start, junior pitcher Zach Cloft (Glastonbury, CT) came through with another top-notch performance allowing only four hits and two runs (one earned) with a strikeout and walk in six innings.
Western New England College (23-6) started out of the gate fast scoring three times in the first and adding a pair of runs in the third for a 6-2 lead. The Golden Bears plated four more runs in the sixth and two in the ninth in beating their cross-town opponents for the seventh straight time.
The Pride (12-16) managed only four hits with sophomore catcher Karl Quist (New Preston, CT) getting two singles, run, and RBI.
Senior pitcher Mike Cole (Greenfield, MA) suffered his first loss in three decisions.
