SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Brendan Nugent (Milford, CT) and freshman Hannah Hill (Malden, MA) were honored Wednesday (May 2) as the Western New England Male and Fame Athletes-of-the-Week.
Nugent, a pitcher on the baseball team, went seven innings and allowed just three hits for his first collegiate shutout in a 6-0 victory at Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Gordon. He didn’t allow any walks and struck out a career high seven batters in raising his record to 6-1 this season with a 2.42 earned-run-average. An Exploratory Business major, Nugent also was selected to the D3baseball.com Team-of-the-Week.
Hill, who plays both shortstop and outfield on the softball squad, hit .357 in five games while handling 14 chances in the field without an error. She had her first collegiate three-hit performance and scored a run in a 3-2 victory over conference leader Endicott. Hill also doubled and scored a key insurance run in a 4-2 win over Curry in a CCC play-in game. She also belted her first career homer in a 2-1 loss against the University of New England in the conference playoffs. She is an Exploratory major.
