Three Western New England gain weekly Commonwealth Coast Conference recognition
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Three Western New England baseball players received awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) on Tuesday (May 8).

Junior Kevin Jefferis (Cheshire, CT) was selected the Pitcher-of-the-Week, junior outfielder Taylor Perun (Plainville, CT) was named the Player-of-the-Week, and freshman pitcher Trevor Breton (Enfield, CT) was voted the Rookie-of-the-Week.

Pitching for the first time since April 21, Jefferis came in with the tying run on deck and got out of the jam with the bases loaded in the ninth to preserve a 6-3 victory over Roger Williams in the CCC Championship title contest. This was the first collegiate save for Jefferis who walked one batter in his inning of work. Jefferis is a Sport Management major.

Perun batted .500 (11-for-22) in a 5-1 week for the Golden Bears, which was highlighted by a clutch 3-for-4 performance with two doubles, walk, run scored, and RBI in the win over Roger Williams that gave the Golden Bears their fifth straight conference crown. Perun also had a triple and homer in a 6-1 win over Salve Regina in the first round of the tournament and had multi-hit outings against Babson, Curry, and Endicott. He is a Finance major.

Breton was the winning pitcher against Roger Williams in the CCC Championship game allowing four hits and three runs (one earned) with a walk and eight strikeouts in eight innings. He also gained the win in relief in a 6-5 non-conference decision over Babson. Breton had a 2.13 earned-run-average in three appearances (12.1 innings) walking one with 10 strikeouts while permitting just three earned runs on five hits. Breton is a Computer Science major.

Western New England (33-11) is ranked 23rd in the D3baseball.com Poll.
