ECAC honors Western New England baseball squad with several post-season awards
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Even though the season has been over for a month, the Western New England baseball team continues to receive awards after its successful 2012 campaign.

Matt LaBranche was selected the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Division III Coach-of-the-Year Thursday (June 21) after leading the Golden Bears to a 38-13 record and the program’s seventh consecutive conference crown, including fifth straight in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

His squad also finished second at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship.

Sophomore pitcher Brendan Nugent (Milford, CT) was named the ECAC New England Pitcher-of-the-Year after compiling a 10-1 record and 1.79 earned-run-average with 55 strikeouts and just 14 walks in 85.2 innings.

Nugent also made the All-ECAC First Team along with junior second baseman Tim Clark (West Springfield, MA) and junior third base player Mike Rubino (Northford, CT).

Clark and Rubino finished one-two on the team in hitting with averages of .428 and .376, respectively. Both players also received All-America recognition this past season.

Junior outfielder Matt Anthonis (Guilford, CT) made the All-ECAC Second Team after batting .362, which  was third on the squad.
