Western New England Picked to Finish in Fourth Place in 2015 CCC Baseball Race

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University baseball team received 58 points for a prognostication of fourth place in the 2015 Commonwealth Coast Conference championship race, according to a vote by the league's nine baseball head coaches in the annual CCC preseason poll that was released on Friday.

Back-to-Back defending champion Endicott College has been voted as the favorite to win this spring after receiving all nine first-place votes for a total of 81 points. Roger Williams University was selected second after earning a total of 66 points. Salve Regina University claimed third with 65 points, while 2014 CCC championship runner-up Western New England placed fourth after receiving 58 points to round out the top billing.

Western New England was in a state of transition and unfamiliar territory with a 19-20-1 overall record last season. The Golden Bears, however, still finished 11-5 in the CCC and battled Endicott in the conference championship game.

Second-year head coach Dan Gomez will be seeking to keep the tradition-rich program in the upper-echelon of the conference race with a roster comprised of six seniors, 14 juniors, six sophomores and eight freshmen. The list of returnees includes three-time all-CCC and -region senior pitcher Trevor Breton, junior all-conference shortstop Kevin Marciano and sophomore all-CCC third baseman Daniel Morin. Senior first baseman Steve Buckley has hit nine home runs and 88 runs batted in during his WNE career.
