Doug Milne, Daniel Morin Two Hits Apiece in Golden Bears' 9-3 Loss to Ramapo

AUBURNDALE, Fla.--Junior Doug Milne and sophomore Daniel Morin each had two hits to lead Western New England University, but Ramapo College used an 18-hit attack to defeat the Golden Bears, 9-3, on Wednesday in RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational action at Lake Myrtle Field #4. Western New England falls to 1-5 on the season while the Roadrunners now stand at 7-1.

Joe Venturino hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for the Roadrunners, who limited the Golden Bears to seven hits. He ended the game with four runs batted in.

Western New England immediately responded with two runs in the top of the second. Junior Eduardo Colmenares, Morin and sophomore Kyle Maglio all walked to load the bases before junior Scott Hubener drove home Colmenares from third with a fielder's choice. Maglio then stole home to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Roadrunners took a 5-2 lead in the bottom half of the frame on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly. Ramapo added insurances runs with two each in the fifth and seventh innings.

Morin accounted for WNE's third run in the eighth with a RBI-single, scoring Milne who had led off with a double.

Ramapo freshman starting pitcher Jerry D'Andrea went six innings to pick up the win, allowing two earned runs, three hits, six walks and getting two strikeouts. Brandon Berger supported D'Andrea by going 4-for-5 with a RBI and six other teammates had at least two hits.

The Golden Bears were hurt by stranding nine runners on base. Ramapo had 12 runners left on base.

Western New England will play Bowdoin College at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Lake Myrtle Park #3 here in Auburndale.
