SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Western New England University junior second baseman Eduardo Colmenares (Caracas, Venezuela) has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, it was announced on Monday. He becomes the first Golden Bears baseball student-athlete this season to win this award. (Senior Trevor Breton was the CCC Pitcher of the Week on April 13.)
Colmenares batted .435 (10-for-23) with two doubles, one triple, six runs batted in and three runs scored, as the Golden Bears turned in a 5-3 weekly record--5-1 against CCC competition. He hit safely in seven games, reached base in all eight contests and logged three multiple-hit performances while slugging .609. He also drew four bases on balls to register a .500 weekly on-base percentage.
On the season, he is hitting .310 and leading the Golden Bears with a .517 slugging percentage.
