Golden Bears Seeded Second in CCC Baseball Championship That Begins Thursday
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Western New England University will be the second seed in the 2015 Commonwealth Coast Conference Baseball Championship Tournament that begins on Thursday on campus sites. The Golden Bears finished the regular season on a three-game win streak to improve to 18-16 overall and they were 11-5 in the CCC standings--just one game behind Endicott College, a team that Western New England split a doubleheader in Beverly on April 12.

The Golden Bears will host fifth-seeded Roger Williams University (15-18, 9-7) at Trelease Park on Thursday, with first-pitch starting at 3:30 p.m. There is no admission charge. Western New England and RWU split a twinbill on April 4 in Springfield, with the Hawks winning the first game in a 2-1 nailbiter before WNE came back big in the second, 7-2. Last season, the Golden Bears ousted the Hawks from the conference tournament to reach the Finals.

For fans who cannot attend the games at Trelease Park, the WNE Athletic Communications Office plans to offer free Live Stats and live video on the Golden Bear Sports Network, presented by the Western New England Office of Alumni Relations and the WNE Alumni Association.

Two other opening-round games are slated for Thursday. Top-seeded and repeat regular-season winner Endicott (22-14 overall, 12-4 CCC) will host sixth-seeded Salve Regina University (21-14 overall, 8-8 CCC) at 4 p.m., and third-seeded Curry College (19-12, 10-6) will host fourth-seeded Gordon College (14-17-1, 9-6-1) at 3 p.m.

The higher seed will host each CCC tournament game played during the first two days of the tournament. The highest remaining seed following the first two full days of play will host all games played on the final two days, unless five teams remain following Game 6. In that scenario, the second-highest remaining seed will host one additional home game. All times and are tentative and subject to change.

Tournament action will continue throughout the week, culminating with the final day scheduled for Sunday. The CCC tournament champion will earn automatic qualification to the upcoming 2015 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, which begins Wednesday, May 13, with regional competition in Harwich, Mass. The eight regional champions will advance to the finals in Appleton, Wis., on May 22-26.
