CCC Athletes of the Week Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 21, 2016) -
Freshman outfielder Ben LaCroix (Branford, Conn.) of the Western New England University baseball team has been recognized by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) as both the league's Player and Rookie of the Week, it was announced this afternoon.
LaCroix continued the impressive start to his collegiate career last week, batting .529 (9-for-17) with a double, two home runs, four RBI and eight runs scored as Western New England went 4-0 and completed an 8-0 spring break trip at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
He recorded multiple hits in three of the four games, including three-hit efforts against both Clarkson and Calvin on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. LaCroix went 3-for-6 against the Golden Knights, doubling in the third inning before belting his first career home run, a two-run shot, in the sixth. The Branford, Conn. native followed that up with another homer the next day as the Golden Bears cruised to a 7-1 win over Franklin & Marshall.
Through eight games this spring, LaCroix is hitting .424 (14-for-33) with two doubles, two home runs, five walks, seven RBI and 14 runs scored. He has reached base in all nine games, recording at least one hit in all but one of those contests.
Western New England (8-0) opens its home schedule tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. when Brandeis visits Trelease Park for a non-conference contest.
