CCC Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 18, 2016) -
Senior righthander David Cherry (Southbury, Conn.) of the Western New England University baseball team has been selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.
Cherry earns this honor after turning in a pair of seven inning complete game performances last week, and surrendering just one earned run while striking out 13 batters with one walk en route to two victories.
In Monday's 9-2 win at Gordon, Cherry went the distance and gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits to go with three punchouts and one walk. He followed that up by fanning ten batters and scattering eight hits over seven innings as the Golden Bears rallied to walk off with a 2-1 win over Endicott on Sunday.
In five starts this season, Cherry is 4-1 with a 2.18 earned run average and 35 strikeouts in 33.0 innings of work.
Western New England (19-5, 7-1 CCC) hosts Keene State this afternoon, before hitting the road for a non-conference contest at Union tomorrow. The Golden Bears then head to Norton, Mass. to face Wheaton on Thursday, and return to CCC play with doubleheaders against Wentworth and Nichols on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
