Senior shortstop Kevin Marciano (Pepperell, Mass.) of the Western New England University baseball team has been selected as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Marciano batted .520 (13-for-25) for the week with six RBI and nine runs scored, while also stealing five bases and walking twice. He posted multi-hit efforts in five of Western New England's seven contests, recording five extra base hits with two doubles, two triples and a home run.
The senior captain went 5-for-10 (.500) at the plate with five RBI in the Golden Bears' three non-conference games, which included wins over Keene State and Union on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, and a setback at Wheaton on Thursday. Marciano belted his second homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the seventh inning against the Lyons.
He recorded three hits and scored three runs in Western New England's 16-3 win over Wentworth on Saturday, before wrapping up his week with five more hits over the course of Sunday's doubleheader split against Nichols at Trelease Park.
Through 31 games this season, Marciano leads the Golden Bears and ranks seventh in the CCC with a .390 batting average (46-for-118). He also ranks in the top-10 in the conference in runs scored (34 - 3rd), doubles (9 - T-5th), triples (3 - T-2nd), and stolen bases (13 - T-3rd).
Western New England (23-8, 9-3 CCC) is in action this afternoon at Keene State, before returning home tomorrow to host MIT in another non-conference contest.
