Western New England Remains at No. 5 in NEIBA Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 26, 2016) -
The Western New England University baseball team has maintained its position at No. 5 in this week's edition of the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Division III Coaches Poll, which was released last night.
Wester New England (23-9, 9-3 CCC) is coming off a 4-3 week, as the Golden Bears went 2-1 in non-conference action before splitting a pair of CCC doubleheaders with Wentworth and Nichols over the weekend at Trelease Park.
Senior captain Kevin Marciano (Pepperell, Mass.) was recognized as the CCC Player of the Week after batting .520 (13-for-25) with six RBI and nine runs scored over the course of the week. Marciano posted five multi-hit performances, recording five extra base hits with two doubles, two triples and one home run. He also stole five bases and walked twice.
The Golden Bears, who check in at No. 5 in the NEIBA Poll for the second consecutive week, find themselves tied with rival Endicott with 14 points. Southern Maine is ranked No. 1 with 43 points and three first place votes, while Tufts is right behind at No. 2, also receiving three first place nods. Amherst and Wheaton are slotted third and fourth, respectively.
Western New England is scheduled to return to action on Thursday at RPI, before wrapping up its CCC schedule with doubleheaders against Curry and Salve Regina on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
