Windham, N.H. native was also named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 1, 2016) – Three days after being named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week, Western New England University sophomore Kurtis Jolicoeur (Windham, N.H.) has received national recognition with his selection to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Jolicoeur recorded ten tackles (eight solo), including 1.5 for a loss of seven yards from his bear position as Western New England improved to 8-0 and 5-0 in NEFC play on Saturday with a 48-25 victory over Maine Maritime. With the Golden Bears leading 14-0 early in the first quarter, he was able to force a fumble by deflecting Mariners' junior quarterback Corey Creeger's option pitch, before recovering the ball at the Mariners' 35-yard line.

Through eight games this season, Jolicoeur leads the team and ranks eighth in the NEFC with 53 tackles, with 8.5 resulting in a loss of 27 yards. His two sacks and one forced fumble are also tied for first on the team.

The Windham, N.H. native is the second Golden Bear to be named to the D3football.com Team of the Week this season, joining senior cornerback Obi Etuka (Middletown, Conn.), who was recognized on October 18 after breaking the program's career interceptions record with his two-pick performance in Western New England's 37-0 shutout victory over MIT. He is just the 14th Golden Bear all-time to earn D3football.com's prestigious weekly honor, while Western New England's offensive line was also honored during the 2012 campaign.

The Golden Bears will travel to Middletown, R.I. on Saturday to take on Salve Regina University (7-0, 5-0 NEFC) with the NEFC title and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
