Western New England defeated Salve Regina 35-26 on Saturday
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 30, 2017) – Following its 35-26 victory over Salve Regina University on Saturday, the Western New England University football team has made its debut in the Grinold Chapter New England Division III Poll at No. 9.
Western New England, which was ranked No. 1 in the New England Poll throughout the 2016 campaign, breaks into the rankings for the first time this season after being among teams receiving votes in the previous five editions.
Springfield College holds the top spot for the sixth consecutive week with 13 of the 15 first place votes. Second place Trinity and third place Plymouth State also received one first place tally.
The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.
A 15-member panel representing all five New England Division III playing conferences will serve as voters in this year's poll, and rankings will be released each Monday afternoon through November 13th.
