Roosevelt, N.Y. native is second two-time honoree in program history
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (December 6, 2017) – Senior defensive tackle Sam Edouard (Roosevelt, N.Y.) of the Western New England University football team has been named to the D3football.com All-East Region Third Team, the website announced on Tuesday.
Edouard becomes the second Golden Bear in program history to receive this honor on multiple occasions, joining Obi Etuka. The Roosevelt N.Y. native and team captain this fall was also named to the D3Football.com All-East Region Third Team as a junior in 2016.
Edouard, who was selected as the Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football) Defensive Lineman of the Year in addition to earning All-CCC Football First Team accolades, compiled 47 tackles (3.5 for loss) this season and helped lead a defensive unit that surrendered just 19.2 points per game (2nd in CCC Football).
Over his four-year Western New England career, Edouard recorded 176 total tackles (17.5 for loss, two sacks), three pass breakup and one forced fumble in 44 games. A two-time All-New England Football Conference (NEFC) selection, he was named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Year last season. Edouard was a member of Western New England teams that captured three consecutive conference titles and posted a record of 37-7 (.841) over the last four years.
The teams, selected in balloting by East Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 321 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 77 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of Dec. 15, in D3football.com's pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLV.
