Senior cornerback intercepted two passes in Western New England's win at Salve Regina on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 2, 2018) – Senior cornerback Tommy Ganley (Delmar, N.Y.) of the Western New England University football team has earned national recognition with his selection to the Team of the Week, the website announced on Tuesday.

Ganley intercepted two passes and broke up another on Saturday as the Golden Bears opened Commonwealth Coast Football play with a 41-14 victory over Salve Regina University at Toppa Field in Newport, R.I. The Delmar, N.Y. native also recorded three solo tackles in the victory.

Through five games this season, Ganley is tied for the CCC lead with five picks, which is also tied for second in all of Division III. He recorded game-sealing interceptions in wins over Westfield State and Husson on September 8 and 15, respectively.

Ganley, who was named the CCC Football Defensive Player of the Week following his performance at Husson, was a wide receiver his first two years at Western New England before transitioning to a defensive back for his junior campaign in 2017.

Ganley is the first Golden Bear to be named to the Team of the Week since Kurtis Jolicoeur on November 1, 2016. He is the 15th Western New England football student-athlete overall to earn this honor.

This is the 20th season that has selected the Team of the Week, which honors the top player nationally at each position from the previous week.

Western New England (4-1, 1-0 CCC Football) is off this weekend, before returning home to host Curry College at Golden Bear Stadium on Saturday, October 14.
