Carlson named Offensive Player of the Week, Trupe earns Defensive Player of the Week honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 11, 2017) – Senior forward Michelle Carlson (Hackettstown, N.J.) and senior goalkeeper Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) of the Western New England University field hockey team have both earned weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced on Monday.
Carlson was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week, while Trupe collected Defensive Player of the Week accolades following Western New England's 1-1 week. The Golden Bears fell to Springfield College, 2-1, on Wednesday, before defeating Clark University, 3-0, on Saturday.
Carlson tallied Western New England's lone goal in the first half of Wednesday's loss to the Pride, and she also scored on Saturday against the Cougars. She has recorded one goal in each of the Golden Bears' three games this season, and has 25 goals in 60 career games.
Trupe matched her career-high with 14 saves against the Pride, before posting a four-save shutout in Saturday's victory over Clark, the sixth of her career. Through three games, she leads the CCC with a .905 save percentage and ranks second with a 0.80 goals against average.
Western New England (2-1) opens CCC play at home on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against Salve Regina.
