DUDLEY, Mass. (October 22, 2019) – The Western New England University field hockey team suffered a 3-1 setback to Nichols College on Tuesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Vendetti Field.
Sophomore forward Ali Larochelle (New Boston, N.H.) was responsible for Western New England's lone tally in the third quarter, while senior forward Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) was credited with an assist.
The Bison were led by junior midfielder Lizz McKinnon (Quincy, Mass.), who scored a pair of goals. Nichols freshman Mackenzie Doran (Wolfeboro, N.H.) recorded two assists, and senior goalie Brooke Misbach (Guilford, Conn.) finished with nine saves.
Senior midfielder Erin Kelley (Dighton, Mass.) staked the Bison to a 1-0 lead 8:11 into the contest, when she one-timed a pass from Doran into the net.
With less than five minutes remaining before halftime, Nichols doubled its advantage on McKinnon's first goal of the game.
The Golden Bears cut their deficit to 2-1 midway through the third quarter, when Larochelle scored on a feed from Clark.
Western New England was unable to get anything past Misbach the rest of the way, however, and the Bison used an insurance goal from McKinnon early in the fourth quarter to extend the final margin to 3-1.
• Western New England outshot Nichols 23-13, including 7-3 in the fourth quarter.
• The Golden Bears also held a 12-4 edge in penalty corners, with a 7-0 advantage over the final 15 minutes of play.
Western New England (7-9, 3-7 CCC) will look to get back on track next Wednesday, when the Golden Bears host Roger Williams at 4 p.m. Nichols (5-10, 2-8 CCC) travels to Gordon on Saturday.
