NEW HAVEN, Conn. — With all five starters scoring in double figures, Western New England College opened its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) season with a 79-67 win at Albertus Magnus College.

Senior forward Anthony Charbatji (Attleboro, MA) led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while sophomore forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) contributed 14 points.

Junior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) added 12 points while senior guard Jeremy Sternstein (Ithaca, NY) had 11 points and a career high seven assists.

Sophomore center Malik Champlain (Norwich, CT) had his best game of the season with 10 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Jason Cardinal (Ashaway, RI) helped the cause by scoring seven points in 14 minutes off the bench.

WNEC (3-3) shot 56.3% in the first half in taking a 44-27 lead at intermission. The Golden Bears forced 17 turnovers and held the Falcons to only 38.2% shooting from the field.
