CHICOPEE, Mass. — Junior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) scored a career high 27 points and sophomore forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) had a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as Western New England College defeated Elms College, 77-66, in a non conference game.
Senior forward Anthony Charbatji (Attleboro, MA) added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Bears who raised their record to 4-3.
Western New England College received 17 points from its bench as senior center Mike Cutler (Amherst, MA) contributed eight points and five rebounds while junior guard Matt Gigliello (Monroe Township, NJ) chipped in with seven points. Junior forward Jason Cardinal (Ashaway, RI) had two points, four rebounds, and two assists against his former team.
The Golden Bears raced to a 47-32 half-time advantage thanks to Godbout who banged home 23 points in the opening 20 minutes
WNEC shot 51.7% from the field and held Elms to only 30.4% shooting. The Golden Bears held the Blazers to 19 points below their season average. Elms (5-2) also had its five-game winning streak snapped in the process.
