SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior guard Asif Abdul-Wadud (Springfield, MA) and junior guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) each scored 13 points to lead the Western New England College men’s basketball team to a 64-41 victory over visiting Regis College Tuesday night (Feb. 12) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Maynard also handed out four assists, grabbed five rebounds, and had a pair of steals in one of his best performances of the season.
This was the fifth consecutive victory for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 14-8 overall and 8-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).
Junior forward Kyle Fredette (Wallingford, VT) contributed 12 points and a game high 14 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. He also blocked five shots.
WNEC led 24-17 at the break before the Pride opened the second half with five straight points to get within 24-22 at the 18:45 mark.
The Golden Bears exploded for 31 points over the next 11:24 to take a 55-31 advantage with seven minutes remaining in the game. Senior guard Ryan Hernandez (Hampton Bays, NY) capped the run with his school record 200th career three-pointer.
Freshman guard Jimmy Irmiter (Chicago, IL) led the Pride with 10 points while sophomore forward Jesse Vega (Pawtucket, RI) added six points and seven rebounds.
Regis is now 8-14 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
This was the lowest point allowed by Western New England College this season. The previous best total was 45 in a win over Union back on January 8.
