AWentworth pulls away in second half to down Western New England College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior guard Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, CT) led four players in double figures with a game high 21 points as visiting Wentworth rolled to 82-56 victory over Western New England College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) men’s basketball game Wednesday night at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Prezzie-Blue connected on 7-of-12 shots from the field, made all four free throws, and pulled down five rebounds for the Leopards.

Junior guard Todd Doyle (Mystic, CT) added 14 points while sophomore forward Matt Abbott (Falmouth, MA) contributed 12 points and nine rebounds coming off the bench. Junior forward Weonard Bynes (Bridgeport, CT) netted 10 points with seven boards.

Wentworth (8-6, 2-2 TCCC) led 30-25 at half-time and held a 14-point lead at 41-27 following a basket by Doyle at the 16:36 mark.

Western New England College (8-7, 2-2 TCCC) got within nine at 45-36 following a basket by senior guard Asif Abdul-Wadud (Springfield, MA) with 14:16 left in the contest.

Wentworth then went on a 15-4 run for a 60-40 advantage capped by Doyle’s basket with 9:59 remaining.

Abdul-Wadud was the only Golden Bears’ player in double figures with 13 points. He made 6-of-12 shots from the field and collected three steals.

Junior guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) finished with eight points while senior guard Ryan Hernandez (Hampton Bays, NY) had seven points in a reserve role. Junior forward Kyle Fredette (Wallingford, VT) had a team high nine rebounds.

Wentworth shot 53.7% from the field (including 60% in the second half) and held a commanding 45-27 edge in rebounding. WNEC had a tough shooting night making only 33.9% of its field goal attempts.
