PAXTON, Mass. - Junior center Derek Johnson (Worcester, MA) and freshman guard Anthony Click (Springfield, MA) each compiled double-doubles as the Anna Maria men's basketball team rolled to a 93-58 victory over Western New England College Wednesday night (Feb. 17).
The AMCATS raised their record to 11-13 overall and 6-6 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC). This was the third straight loss for the Golden Bears who are now 12-12 and 7-5 in the league.
Johnson finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds while Click contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Anna Maria had five players hit double figures as junior guard Junior De La Hoz (Lawrence, MA) and freshman guard Jeremy Ross (Holden, MA) both netted 12 points. Senior guard Colin Purdon (Putnam, CT) added 10 points.
The AMCATS jumped to a 45-25 lead at the break and were never threatened in the second half.
Senior guard Rick Johnson (Springfield, MA) led Western New England College with 14 points, four steals, and three assists. Sophomore guard Andre Shaw (Jamaica, NY) chipped-in with 13 points.
Anna Maria shot 46.3% from the field and held a commanding 56-28 advantage off the boards thanks mainly to 27 offensive boards (11 by Johnson, 8 by Click).
Western New England College shot a respectable 42.9% from the floor, but struggled at the line making only 12-of-27 attempts (44.4%).
