Roger Williams Uses Late Surge to Top the Golden Bears, 83-72

BRISTOL, R.I. (January 28, 2020) – The Western New England University men's basketball team suffered their third straight loss, falling 83-72 to Roger Williams in CCC action on Tuesday evening at the Campus Recreation Center.

Top Performers
The Hawks were led by junior Drew Hart (Cheshire, Conn.), who had a double-double with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Eli Harris (Falmouth, Mass.) contributed 18 points.

Junior guard Alex Sikorski (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led the Golden Bears with 17 points while junior forward Zachary Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) had 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. 

Game Review
The Hawks started out strong, grabbing a 13-7 lead roughly five minutes into the game after a layup from Harris. The Golden Bears took the lead back after a layup from sophomore Antonio Brancato (Fairfield, Conn.) to give Western New England a 24-23 lead.

After exchanging the lead several times, the Golden Bears grabbed a six point lead with the score at 41-35. The Hawks went on a 7-0 run to end the half and take a 42-41 lead into halftime.

The Hawks extended their lead to eight early in the second half after a layup from junior JJ Pfohl (Trumball, Conn.) gave Roger Williams a 53-45 lead. A 3-pointer from Harris with just under 10 minutes left in the game gave the Hawks a 12 point lead, their largest lead of the game at that point.

The Golden Bears cut the lead down to five before the Hawks pulled away in the final minutes.
