Fontaine & Abbott finish second and third, respectively
WARWICK, R.I. (April 14, 2017) – Senior Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) placed second and third individually as the Western New England University men's golf team continued its strong start to the spring season with a first place finish at the Rhode Island College Invitational on Friday at Valley Country Club.
Western New England, which opened its spring schedule with a 15-stroke victory at the Rich Korzec Invitational on Tuesday, won by a two-stroke margin over second place Rhode Island College today. The Golden Bears fired a 300, while RIC posted a score of 302 and Babson College placed third after shooting 310. Endicott College (315) and UMass Dartmouth (320) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Austin Cilley of Rhode Island College claimed medalist honors with a one-under par 71.
• Fontaine placed second in the 49-player field with an even-par 72, while Abbott finished one stroke back in third overall with a one-over 73.
• Junior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished in a four-way tie for tenth place after turning in a score of 77.

The Golden Bears will be back in action next Thursday, when they host the annual Western New England Invitational at Veteran's Golf Course in Springfield, Mass.
