Western New England Opens Spring Season with Sixth Place Finish at Rhode Island College Invitational

Abbott leads Golden Bears, placing eighth with five-over 77

WARWICK, R.I. (April 7, 2018) –
The Western New England University men's golf team opened its spring season with a sixth place finish on Saturday at the Rhode Island College Invitational, held at Valley Country Club. 

The Golden Bears turned in a team score of 318, good for sixth place in the 15-team field. The host Anchormen won the event with a score of 305, while Babson College (307) and Roger Williams (314) finished second and third, respectively.

Senior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) paced Western New England, as he tied for eighth-place in the 76-golfer field after shooting a five-over par 77.

Senior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) tied for 18th with scores of 79, while senior Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) carded an 83, good for a tie for 41st.

Also competing for Western New England was freshman Tyler Sinacola (North Attleboro, Mass.), who tied for 69th after posting a score of 92.
