Balanced attack leads Curry over Western New England, 7-1

 Curry received offense from seven athletes to push ahead of the Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 30, 2018) – The Western New England University ice hockey team dropped a CCC contest 7-1 to Curry College on Friday night at the Max Ulin Ice Rink. 

Top Performers
The Golden Bears received a goal from senior forward Matt O'Dea (Oakland Park, Ill.) which gives him three goals on the season.

In net, senior keeper Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) collected 27 saves in full time on the ice.

Curry found scoring from seven different players. Zachary White and Lionel Mauron led the way with a goal and three assists. Michael Snow, Mike Pellegrini, Alex Ochterbeck, Anthony Trujillo, and Kasper Kjellkvist all contributed a goal for the home team.

Game Review
In the first period, Curry struck first off the stick of Snow. Off a faceoff, Snow received a feed from Mauron that White set up. At 11:50, the Golden Bears had a chance for an equalizer in a powerplay situation, but could not take advantage.

 Curry went up 2-0 when Pelligrini scored with 4:37 remaining in the period, with Mauron and Snow assisting on the play.

To start the second period, Gollmer collected four saves while the defense blocked several other shots.

Halfway through the second period, Zachary White and Mauron connected for Curry's third goal of the game. Over the next 10 minutes, Gollmer made eight more saves until Curry scored again.

With under a minute remaining, Kjellkvist found Ochterbeck to make the lead 4-0 in favor of the Colonels.

In the beginning of the third period, the Golden Bears would get on the board by capitalizing on a powerplay with a goal from Matt O'Dea assisted by Steve Beck to make the score 4-1.

Curry would go on to get goals from Mauron, Kjellkvist, and Trujillo in the period to make the deficit too strong for the Golden Bears.

• Curry outshot the Golden Bears, 34-21.
• Gollmer made double digit saves for the seventh time this season.

Western New England (1-9, 0-7 CCC) looks to bounce back as they face Becker College (1-10-1, 0-6-1 CCC) at home at 7pm on Saturday night. Curry College (4-4-2, 3-3-1 CCC) will travel to Wentworth Saturday at 1pm.
