Golden Bears' 2018 schedule features five teams ranked in NEILA Top-10
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 20, 2018) – The Western New England University men's lacrosse team has been picked ninth in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Preseason Division III Poll, which was released by the organization on Monday.
The NEILA conducts weekly polls for Division I, II and III. The polls are voted on by a committee of coaches within their respective divisions.
The Division III preseason poll is dominated by NESCAC programs, with the top six teams hailing from the conference. Wesleyan was selected as the preseason favorite with seven first place votes, followed by Amherst, Tufts, Bates, Bowdoin and Middlebury.
Springfield College is the first non-NESCAC program in the poll at No. 7, while Keene State was picked eighth. The Golden Bears checked in at No. 9, and fellow Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) member Endicott College rounded out the poll at No. 10.
Western New England's 2018 schedule features five teams in the NEILA's preseason rankings (Keene State, Amherst, Bates, Springfield, Endicott), and an additional three programs (Williams, Lasell, University of New England) that are receiving votes in the initial poll.
The Golden Bears will be on the road at Keene State in their season opener next Tuesday, February 27 at 4 p.m.
