Western New England will be making ninth all-time NCAA Tournament appearance

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 6, 2018) –
The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champion Western New England University men's lacrosse team will travel to No. 2 ranked York (Pa.) College for an NCAA Tournament second round contest on Wednesday, May 9th at Kinsley Field.

Western New England (13-6) was among 36 teams to hear its name called during the NCAA selection show on Sunday night. The Golden Bears, who went 8-0 in CCC play during the regular season, defeated Salve Regina (18-5) and Endicott (10-6) in the CCC Tournament semifinals and championship, respectively.

An eleven-time conference champion with seven CCC titles and four Pilgrim League crowns, Western New England will be making its ninth all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

York (17-2) earned the top seed in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament after posting an 8-0 league record, but the Spartans fell to No. 7 Salisbury in the championship game. York will be making its third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fourth overall, with at least one win in each of the three prior trips. 

The NCAA Tournament will begin with four First Round games on Tuesday, May 8 with the winners advancing to play in the Second Round on Wednesday, May 9. The 16 remaining teams will play in the Third Round on Saturday, May 12. The quarterfinals will take place on Wednesday, May 16 and the semifinals will be played Sunday, May 20.

This year's finalists will advance to Foxborough, Mass. for the championship game at Gillette Stadium, which will be played at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 27, and shown via web stream on NCAA.com. That game will be followed by the Division II championship at 4 p.m. Eastern time, which can also be seen on NCAA.com. The Division I semifinals and championship are Saturday, May 26 and Monday, May 28 at the same site.
