Greer & Bannon record two goals and one assist each
TAMPA, Fla. (March 21, 2019) – The No. 20 ranked St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team scored seven unanswered first quarter goals on its way to a 16-7 non-conference victory over Western New England University on Thursday night at the Naimoli Complex on the campus of the University of Tampa.
Western New England was led by sophomore midfielder Matt Greer (South Windsor, Conn.) and freshman attackman Mike Bannon (Edmond, Okla.), who both posted three-point efforts with two goals and one assist.
St. Lawrence senior attackman Conor Caffrey (Scituate, Mass.) recorded a game-high six points (four goals, two assists), while junior attackman Mike Donnelly (Mansfield, Mass.) finished with four goals and one assist.
St. Lawrence sophomore midfielder Alex Mapstone (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) opened the scoring at the 11:24 mark of the first quarter, before Caffrey and Donnelly added goals at 10:32 and 6:25, respectively.
Still leading 3-0 late with just under three minutes remaining in the frame, St. Lawrence tallied four goals the rest of the way to open up a 7-0 advantage.
The Saints extended their advantage to 8-0 three minutes into the second period, before Greer got the Golden Bears on the board with 10:52 on the clock.
Both teams found the back of the net twice in the third quarter, with Rust (8:43) and Greer (3:37) supplying the offense for Western New England.
In the final frame, the Saints outscored the Golden Bears 3-2 to extend the final margin to nine.
• St. Lawrence outshot Western New England 51-29, including 19-3 in the first quarter.
• St. Lawrence sophomore Zachary Prime (Duxbury, Mass.) won 12-of-22 faceoffs, and the Saints held a 16-11 faceoff advantage overall.
• Bannon has recorded multiple points in all six games this season.
Western New England (3-3) opens Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Sunday at Wentworth, while St. Lawrence (6-0) returns home to host Bard in Liberty League action.
