SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 1, 2019) – Three members of the Western New England University men's lacrosse team have received weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Senior attackman Jared Ward (Littleton, Mass.) was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Week, while senior faceoff specialist Hunter Cocks (Walden, N.Y.) collected his second Specialist of the Week award and freshman attackman Mike Bannon (Edmond, Okla.) garnered Rookie of the Week accolades for the fourth time this season.
Western New England went 2-0 last week with a 13-6 win over Roger Williams on Wednesday and a 14-10 victory over the University of New England on Saturday.
Ward fueled the offense with a team-high 11 points over the two games. He opened the week with two goals, two assists and three ground balls as the Golden Bears defeated the Hawks. Ward then produced seven points (four goals, three assists) and scooped up five ground balls in Saturday's triumph over the Nor'easters.
Cocks posted a dominant 80% faceoff success rate (28-for-35) over the Golden Bears' two wins. He went 18-for-23 while collecting 13 ground balls against the Hawks, before turning in a 10-for-12 effort to go along with seven ground balls in limited duty on Saturday in the win over UNE.
Bannon continued his strong freshman campaign with two more multi-point performances last week. He scored three goals on six shots in Wednesday's win over Roger Williams, and dished out three assists against the Nor'easters.
