SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 8, 2019) – For the second consecutive week, senior attackman Jared Ward (Littleton, Mass.) and freshman attackman Mike Bannon (Edmond, Oka.) of the Western New England University men's lacrosse team have been recognized with weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced on Monday.
Ward was again selected as the CCC Offensive Player of the Week, while Bannon earned his fifth CCC Rookie of the Week award.
The duo helped fuel the Western New England offense last week as the Golden Bears went 1-1 with an 18-12 non-conference loss to crosstown rival Springfield College on Tuesday, and a 20-8 CCC road victory over Nichols on Thursday.
In the setback to the Pride, Ward scored two goals while Bannon dished out three assists. Two days later, Ward broke out for a career-high 10 points (five goals, five assists) and Bannon produced a season-high six points (two goals, four assists) in the win over the Bison.
Ward leads the Golden Bears with 50 points (25 goals, 25 assists) this season, while Bannon ranks third with 33 points (15 goals, 18 assists).
Western New England (7-4, 4-0 CCC) travels to Gordon on Wednesday night before returning home on Saturday to host Endicott.
