Golden Bears Picked Fourth in CCC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

Western New England opens 2018 campaign at Bridgewater State on Friday, August 31

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (August 22, 2018) –
The Western New England University men's soccer team has been picked fourth of nine teams in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released on Wednesday by the league office.

The Golden Bears received 49 points in the poll, which is voted on by all coaches in the CCC. Defending champion Endicott College was selected as the preseason favorite with 78 points and seven first place votes, and Gordon placed second with 72 points and one first place nod. Wentworth finished ahead of Western New England in third with 57 points, while Salve Regina (42 points), Roger Williams (41), Nichols (28), University of New England (21) and Curry (17) followed the Golden Bears. The Nor'easters also received the final first place vote. 

Entering his fourth season at Western New England, head coach Devin O'Neill will look to lead the Golden Bears back to the top of the CCC in 2018.

The Golden Bears went 12-7-1 (6-2-1 CCC) last fall and reached the CCC Semifinals with the help of Troy Remillard's 22-goal, All-America campaign. Junior Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.) and senior Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) are Western New England's top two returning scorers after combining for 27 points in 2017, while senior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) is also back following a strong first season in net.

The Golden Bears travel to Bridgewater State for their 2018 opener on Friday, August 31st, before returning to Suprenant Field eight days later to take on Husson in their home opener on September 8th. CCC play begins on September 15th, when Western New England hosts Endicott College.
