Liccardi, Prindle & Remillard record goals for WNE
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (September 2, 2018) – The Western New England University men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2018 campaign with a 3-0, non-conference triumph over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Sunday afternoon at Shewcraft Field.
Western New England utilized three different goal scorers in the contest, as senior Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), junior Connor Prindle (Shelton, Conn.) and sophomore Matt Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) all found the back of the net.
The Golden Bear defense surrendered just one shot on goal all game, which senior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) turned away in the 30th minute.
Western New England opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Liccardi converted a penalty kick following an MCLA foul in the box. The goal marked his second in the past three days after scoring in Friday's season opener at Bridgewater State.
The Golden Bears would double their advantage before the break, as sophomore Josh Labonte (Ludlow, Mass.) sent a cross to the far post and Remillard headed home his first goal of the season at 41:46 to make it 2-0.
Western New England tacked on another goal in the 66th minute, when Prindle beat MCLA sophomore goalkeeper Sean Bradshaw (Clifton Park, N.Y.) to cap the scoring in the contest.
• Western New England outshot MCLA by a 17-6 margin, including 8-1 in the second half.
• The Golden Bears also held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
• Western New England has outscored MCLA 8-1 over their last two meetings. The Golden Bears defeated the Trailblazers 5-1 in Springfield last September.
Western New England (1-1) plays its third straight road game on Wednesday afternoon at Wheaton, while MCLA (0-2) remains at home to host Morrisville State on Friday.
